Incline Village’s Music on the Beach: Ski Beach in 2026

September 10, 2026

On a Friday evening in early September, Public Eye set up their gear at Ski Beach the way bands have all summer: amps facing the creek, a small crowd claiming grass with low-back chairs, and a line at the walk-in gate west of the guard kiosk where people held up their IVGID Picture Passes to a staffer with a scanner. Nobody paid cash at the new Incline Surf Shack trailer parked near the boat ramp. If you forgot a jacket, you felt it, since the new location has more shade and less afternoon warmth than the old spot fifty yards away.

That old spot is the reason any of this is happening. Incline Beach, the sandy stretch where Music on the Beach used to play every summer, has been a construction zone since spring. Most residents know that much. What fewer people have clocked is that this wasn't a one-summer fix. The Incline Beach House Project is scheduled for completion in mid-summer 2027, according to an update posted by the Incline Village General Improvement District in March 2026. That means the Ski Beach workaround residents just spent a season learning will carry into next year, at least while construction continues.

A Decade in the Making, a Contract That Finally Landed

The idea of replacing Incline Beach's aging snack bar and restrooms goes back to 2016, when IVGID trustees first flagged the 60-plus-year-old facilities as due for an overhaul. It took most of a decade to get from that idea to a shovel in the ground. The board approved a design-build construction agreement with CORE Construction for $9,415,617 on December 10, 2025, following a competitive bidding process that closed the previous October, according to reporting from the Tahoe Daily Tribune. Construction began in mid-April, and the beach's main entrance closed for the season, replaced by a temporary entrance with reduced parking.

The discussion also covered what the building should include. Trustees spent more than one meeting debating whether a three-month peak season justified a full commercial kitchen. The Tahoe Daily Tribune reported that one board member questioned spending over two million dollars on kitchen infrastructure to serve what he called basically hot dogs and fries. Others pushed back, arguing that a beach used by thousands of residents deserved more than portable toilets and a decades-old snack window. The kitchen stayed in the plans. So did an expanded bar area, patio seating, two new fire pits, and restrooms open year-round instead of just summer. The project’s scope expanded, and construction is expected to span two beach seasons.

What Actually Moved, and What Didn't

Here's the part that surprises people who assumed the disruption was contained to the closed entrance. Food and beverage service and the entire Music on the Beach concert series relocated next door to Ski Beach for 2026, and IVGID has said explicitly that both will remain there through construction, not just for this one summer. The district contracted with Mitch Harbaugh, who has booked bands and emceed the series for more than ten years, specifically so the concerts would keep their same feel even in a new location. The 2026 lineup runs from a Fourth of July bonus show through a Friday, September 11 finale, with acts like Jacked Up, Glitter Bomb, and the Blues Monsters Quintet filling Wednesday and Friday evening slots.

Here's what the two-summer arrangement looks like laid out plainly:

Season Concert location Food & beverage Beach house status
2026 Ski Beach Incline Surf Shack trailer, cash not accepted Under construction, main entrance closed
2027 Ski Beach during construction Ski Beach during construction Construction continues, completion targeted mid-summer

Residents who assumed 2027 would mean concerts back at the rebuilt Incline Beach are planning around a timeline that doesn't match what IVGID has published. The band infrastructure upgrades in the new beach house are designed to bring Music on the Beach back to its original home starting with the 2027 season and beyond, per the district's own language, which puts the actual return closer to mid-summer 2027 at the earliest, not the start of that season.

There's a smaller, more predictable seasonal shift worth knowing too. Ski Beach opens to dogs once the district's beaches close for the year, typically October 15 through April 15. IVGID and the Pet Network Humane Society have marked that transition with an annual Puppy Plunge, complete with a dock-diving competition and a peanut butter jar as the entry fee. If last year's pattern holds, expect it again in October, at Ski Beach, west of the boat ramp.

Where the Après-Beach Crowd Actually Went

Construction closed one entrance, but it didn't close the appetite for a meal or a drink after a day on the water, and the dining scene absorbed that demand in ways that outlasted the disruption itself.

The most visible shift happened across the street from the Hyatt Regency, where a longtime restaurant space that had been Austin's reopened under new ownership as Paxton's Settlement. Co-founders Cole Dunbar, serving as executive chef, and Jordan Armstrong, running beverage, took over the space and rebuilt it around fresh ingredients and seasonal menus, according to coverage in the Sierra Sun. Dunbar described the early motivation simply: the space had potential, it just needed direction and a clear identity. Word has traveled beyond the Tahoe Basin, with visitors from Los Angeles and San Francisco already showing up.

A few minutes away on Tahoe Boulevard, Bar La Loca opened as a Spanish-inspired cocktail bar and tapas spot, quickly building a following among locals looking for a date-night option that didn't exist in town before. Between Thursday and Monday evenings, the small space has become one of the harder reservations to land on the North Shore.

Meanwhile, the golf-course dining scene added its own wrinkle for the season. The Grille at the Chateau reopened for its 2026 run through mid-October with a new addition: Sunday brunch specials from 11am to 2pm, alongside the existing happy hour that now gives IVGID Picture Pass holders 20 percent off food and non-alcoholic drinks between 4 and 6pm daily.

None of these openings were caused by the beach construction. But they landed in the same season the old Incline Beach tiki bar went dark, and residents who used to end a beach day with a drink at the water's edge now have three newer, and in some cases better, reasons to do the same thing somewhere else in town. That's not a coincidence worth ignoring. It's evidence that Incline Village's après-beach routine has already rebuilt itself around new anchors, independent of when IVGID finishes its own rebuild.

The Takeaway for Next Summer

The easy assumption is that 2026 was the disruption year and 2027 brings things back to normal. The actual timeline says otherwise. Ski Beach is expected to remain the concert venue and food service hub while construction continues into the coming season, the beach house completion sits at mid-summer 2027 at the earliest, and the dining options that filled the gap this year, Paxton's Settlement, Bar La Loca, the reworked Grille at the Chateau, aren't going anywhere once the ribbon finally gets cut. Plan your next Fourth of July and your next Music on the Beach Friday accordingly. The workaround is expected to carry into next year, at least until construction wraps.
